Astoria, OR (July 23, 2019) - It is very difficult while riding along US-101 to imagine Oregon as anything but high seaside bluffs, and rocky islands along the Pacific Coast. The scenic beauty is astounding and memorable. Of course, that's only the coastal view. Forty miles inland the state highways and county roads cut like canyons through mamassive pine forests. Further east a ridge of volcanic mountains and calderas act as natures gateway to a high desert landscape appreciated only by few for its desolation and sharp contrasts of light and dark.

I had no expectations of Oregon in any way. I left it, and will return to it, with the knowledge that it is full of surprises.
