2018 - Segment 1 Itinerary / LA

Exploring Acadiana & Cajun Country

2018 01 MSI think finding a place to pitch my tent in Louisiana is going to be tricky, especially for the stops around New Orleans. If you can offer something, please contact me as soon as possible.

I lived in the New Orleans area, at Gretna, for almost a year while I was in the Coast Guard. I had almost gotten the hang of the Cajun accent before it was time to leave to Michigan and re-learn Yooper accents. That is pure culture shock, and something I will never forget.

The massive areas of swampland, bayous and rivers in southern Louisiana make it difficult to just pick a US Route or state highway and ride a straight line to reach the county seats. The solution is to pick a river and follow the shoreline. I have been to the southeast peninsula area and know that there simply isn't anything like a memorial there, except at Point a la Hache. And even that is now an iffy location because the memorial location has been flooded a copule of times in the last several years and it may have been moved, or even put in storage. To keep it simple I just plan to touch the top end of that parish and use the time saved to visit additional mounuments in New Orleans.

The return legs out of Texas toward Mississippi are much straighter and less easy to get lost as I ride along them. Because I am not exactly sure how weather, rest, and roadside encounters will affect the schedule through Texas, I am only able to estimate that I will reach stop #18 about the March 6.

Departure and arrival dates and times are always an estimate. If you plan to meet me at a particular monument, or want to ride along with me, you should  Email  or DM me on Twitter to get my cell phone number so I can update you on specific arrival times.

DONATE Budget is always a concern, and I need your help. No daily sponsors have been found, so your help is essential. Please, click on the "DONATE" button at the top of this page. Anybody tossing at least $15 into the fuel fund will receive a 3" tour patch.
