Tour Notes

The good efforts of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War has kept the work of US Grant Post 67 from fading completely into the past. Some of the original memorial area here at Pine Ridge Cemetery is no longer clearly legible. The help of the SUVCW and VFW Post 7053 these preserve this veterans memorial is commendable.

This area of Michigan supplied a great number of men to the Union Army of the Civil War. GAR posts were numerous until the early 1900's and began to fade as quickly as the old soldiers died. All that remains of a walkway placed by the Womens Relief Corp in 1920 is one small block, and it is broken and nearly illegible.

Womens Relief Corp #271 did place a World War II marker in this area in 1946 and in 1929 the Daughters of Union Veterans placed a plaque at the city hall of Bay City to honor all of the soldiers and the women who served.
