Tour Notes
I will be coming back through Macon County just to keep track of the two Confederate memorials here at Montezuma and Oglethorp. This monument was erected by a U.D.C. chapter that no longer exists - and its engraved sentiment is bound to forment controversy in today's political climate. The 1911 monument shows the battle flag flying from an unbroken standard and the soldier stands at ease with rifle in hand. The words and symbolism are unmistakeable.
